On July 29, H.E. Ambassador Jiang Feng, Head of the Mission of the People's Republic of China to the African Union, met with H.E. Prof. Gaspard Banyankimbona, Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of the AU Commission. Counsellor Zhai Dongsheng was present.

Ambassador Jiang congratulated Commissioner Banyankimbona on his successful participation in the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference(WAIC) and expressed China's readiness to work with the African Union to implement the outcomes of the Conference, support Africa in strengthening its AI capacity building, and jointly advance a just and equitable global AI governance system. He also exchanged views with Commissioner Banyankimbona on deepening China-Africa cooperation in science, technology, and education.

Commissioner Banyankimbona highly praised the achievements of WAIC, commended China's leadership in global AI governance, and expressed his expectation of deepening cooperation mechanisms with China in the field of AI, jointly upholding the shared interest of the Global South, and pursuing more tangible outcomes in cooperation on science, technology, and education.
