On August 1, mainstream media of Ethiopia, including the Capital Newspaper and Horn Economic Review, published an article titled “China’s ‘excess capacity’ debate is really a fight over the rules of global trade”, commenting on the position paper recently released by China’s Ministry of Commerce, titled “China’s Position on the So-Called Excess Capacity Issue”.

The article spoke highly of China’s release of the position paper, saying that it provides a strong response to international concerns and questions regarding China’s manufacturing sector and trade policies. It pointed out that while some Western countries criticize China for supporting its industries, they themselves have implemented extensive industrial subsidies, reflecting clear “double standards”. The rise of China’s manufacturing sector has created a “China Opportunity 2.0”, and African countries should seize this opportunity to strengthen cooperation with China in areas such as infrastructure, energy and manufacturing, enhance local industrial capacity, and advance industrialization and economic transformation.
