On September 30th, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), in collaboration with the Mission of China to the African Union, hosted a celebration of the United Nations International Translation Day. Over 200 participants attended the event, including high-level representatives of UN agencies, the African Union and diplomatic missions, as well as students from local universities.

In his remarks on behalf of the Chinese Mission, Minister Zhang Wei noted that, currently, the international rules and order built over the past 80 years are under serious challenges, and the once-effective international system is constantly disrupted. The Global Governance Initiative (GGI) proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, provides China's solution for building a more just and equitable global governance system. As we mark the U.N.’s 80th anniversary, China stands ready to work with other member states to renew the founding mission of the U.N., reaffirm the commitment to the purposes and principles of the U.N. Charter, and revitalize the U.N.’s authority and vigor in the new era, so as to play a bigger role for safeguarding world peace, promoting common development and building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Acting Director of the Regional Integration and Trade Division of UNECA, Chief of Education Section of the UNESCO Liaison Office to the AU, and Ambassadors of Russia, Morocco, Chile, delivered speeches respectively. Students from Confucius Institute at Addis Ababa University performed Chinese kuaiban (a traditional form of rhythmic storytelling) and Huangmei Opera.
