On September 19, Mr. Zhang Wei, Minister and Deputy Head of Mission, met with Dr. Yonas Adaye, member of Ethiopia’s National Dialogue Committee and former Director of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University.

Mr. Zhang praised Dr. Adaye’s recent remarks on multilateralism at the seminar “Honor the History for a Better Future ― China and Africa Jointly Building a New Era of Peace and Prosperity”. He gave a detailed exposition of the Global Governance Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, stating that China respects the diversity of civilizations and consistently supports resolving differences through dialogue. He emphasized that China is Africa’s most trustworthy friend and most reliable partner, and China’s policy toward Africa will remain stable.

Dr. Adaye responded that he felt greatly inspired by President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative. He pointed out that China treats Africa on the basis of equality, mutual respect, and inclusive cooperation, which fundamentally differs from the approach of some other countries. He said that China and Africa jointly upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and defending the common interests of the Global South will help advance the international order in a fairer and more reasonable direction.
