On 4 Feburary, Minster Zhang Wei, Deputy Head of the Mission of China to the African Union, met with Dr. Hanan Morsy, the Deputy Executive Secretary and Chief Economist of United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA).

Minister Zhang welcomed Dr. Morsy’s visit and provided a briefing on the spirit of promoting high-standard opening-up and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation in the Recommendations of the CPC Central Committee on Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan. He stated that the Chinese side will firmly uphold the multilateralism, strengthen cooperation with UNECA and jointly provide intellectual support to African countries, assisting them in making good use of China’s “Zero Tarrif” treatment and accelerating industrialization and modernization.

Dr. Morsy congratulated the successful launch of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges. She expressed that the stability of China’s policy towards Africa has provided strong support for Africa’s socio-economic development in the face of a volatile and unstable international situation. UNECA is willing to deepen cooperation with the Chinese side and jointly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its center and the international order based on international law.
