On April 8, Mr. Zhang Wei, Minister and Deputy Head of the Mission, met with Dr. Yonas Adaye, member of Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission and former Director of the Institute for Peace and Security Studies at Addis Ababa University, and exchanged views on the current international and regional situation.

Minister Zhang briefed Dr. Yonas on China’s efforts to promote a ceasefire and end hostilities since the very start of the conflict involving Iran, and noted that China will implement zero-tariff treatment for 53 African countries that have diplomatic relations with China. He emphasized that China will remain committed to the path of peaceful development, continue to expand high-level opening-up, and steadily advance the upgrading of China-Africa cooperation.

Dr. Yonas highly commended China’s constructive role in promoting peace talks and facilitating dialogue, and expressed strong appreciation for the five-point initiative of China and Pakistan for restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and the Middle East region, as well as China’s zero-tariff measures for Africa. He noted that the Global South should strengthen cooperation and jointly contribute to safeguarding world peace and promoting common development.
