On June 13, on the occasion of the FIFA World Cup, Mr. Zhang Wei, Minister and Deputy Head of the Mission of China to the African Union led a team from the Mission of China to the African Union to participate in the 4th Diplomatic World Cup Football Tournament. A total of 26 teams representing diplomatic missions, international organizations, and regional institutions took part in the competition. 

Throughout the competition, the Chinese team demonstrated determination, teamwork and a spirit of excellence on the pitch, earning warm applause from spectators and fellow participants alike. The participation marked an initiative by the Mission to actively engage in multilateral exchanges. It further strengthened ties with diplomatic missions, international organizations and African partners, while vividly embodying the sporting spirit of “friendship first, competition second.”

Following the matches, Mr. Zhang Wei was interviewed by Ethiopian media, sharing his experience in the tournament and highlighting the achievements of people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China, Africa and other countries.
