On June 23, Minister Zhang Wei, Deputy Head of Mission of China to the African Union, met with Mr. Harsen Nyambe,the Director of Sustainable Environment and Blue Economy (SEBE) of the African Union Commission, in the presence of Counselor He Kaihui and other officials.

Minister Zhang stated that environmental issue constitutes one of the core agendas of the global governance system and China attaches great importance to the cooperation with the AU in this field. The Chinese government recently released a white paper titled “More Just and Equitable Global Governance: China’s Principles, Proposals and Actions”. The paper systematically elaborates the historical background, rich connotations, and great significance of Global Governance Initiative, as well as China’s goals, positions, and action plans regarding global governance. China stands ready to work with the AU and Global South countries to uphold multilateralism, jointly advance global governance, and build an All-weather China-Africa Community with a Shared Future in the New Era.

Mr Harsen congratulated the Chinese side on the release of the white paper and expressed gratitude for China’s long-standing support for the AU and African countries. He stated that the AU is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Chinese side to jointly promote exchanges and cooperation in the fields of sustainable environment, climate change, and disaster prevention and reduction.
