2018-09-27 20:43

Ambassador Liu Yuxi, Head of Mission of People’s Republic of China to the African Union, hosted a joint meeting for the purpose of implementing the Action Plan of the FOCAC Beijing Summit and the MOU on Belt and Road between the Chinese Government and the African Union on September 18, 2018. The delegation of African Union Commission led by H.E. Mr. Albert Muchanga, Commissioner of Trade and Industry and the Chinese delegation from National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) headed by Mr. Zhao Ai, Director-General of Department of Western Region Development, participated in the meeting.

Ambassador Liu Yuxi said H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of African Union Commission, led the AU delegation to attend the FOCAC Beijing Summit in early September when he signed a MOU on Belt and Road Cooperation with H.E. Mr. He Lifeng, Minister of National Development and Reform Commission. The Chinese Government is willing to work together and actively put into practice the consensuses of the leaders from both sides by enhancing coordination and synergy between the Belt and Road Initiative, Agenda 2063 and the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, as well as making concrete contribution to Africa’s social and economic development. The Chinese Mission to the African Union will play a positive role like a bridge for both sides to inject the dynamic force into the China-African Union cooperation.

Director-General Zhao Ai expressed his sincere thanks to the African Union Commission for the hospitable reception. He said less than two weeks after the closure of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, NDRC sent a delegation to discuss with AUC senior officials the ways and means to effectively implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Summit. This sufficiently reflects the great significance Chinese government attaches to its cooperation with African Union. Both sides decide to make joint efforts and take concrete measures to turn the agreements into reality.

Commissioner Muchanga expressed his high regards to the concrete measures proposed by the Chinese side to deepen the China-AU cooperation in the years to come. He appreciated the pragmatic and efficient working style of NDRC colleagues, stressing that the African Union Commission is willing to work together with the Chinese government to jointly push forward Belt and Road Initiative and bring more benefits and prosperity to the African people.
